FAQ
What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system.  Chiropractic care is used most often but not limited to back pain, neck pain, numbness and headaches. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as spinal manipulation, also called chiropractic adjustment. The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility into joints that have become restricted in their movement. Restricted joint movement can occur as a result of a single traumatic event such as improper lifting, or through repetitive stresses.  Manipulation or adjustment of the effected joint and tissues restores mobility thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness and allowing the tissues to heal. Chiropractic adjustments rarely cause discomfort. However, patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment. This would be similar to the discomfort felt after exercising.

Is chiropractic scientific?

Can you help with my problem?
We routinely treat conditions such as neck pain, back pain, sciatica, headaches, numbness as well as others.  Where no treatment is perfect, we are proud of our success rate.  If we feel we can not be successful in treating your condition, we will surely let you know and refer you to the appropriate place to receive the care that you need.  Ultimately, a proper exam and often x-rays are necessary to determine if your condition is a chiropractic problem.

What should I expect on my first visit?
The first thing you be asked to do is complete some paperwork.  Although this seems tedious, it is very important, and we try to keep it as simple as possible.  You may view and print our forms on this website.  This may save you some time and allow you to be more thorough with your reporting.  Following a review of the forms, we will discuss your health history and history of your current condition.  We will then perform a physical and spinal evaluation to determine the nature of you condition. This will help us determine if we can help and how long it will take. We will then decide if x-rays are needed and take them if require. Following the history, exam and x-rays we will often begin treatment depending on your condition. The entire first visit will take approximately one hour.

Do I need to keep coming back?
That is really up to you, depending on what you expect to get from your care. The initial goal, of course, is to eliminate your pain and other symptoms.  Although people often feel relief after just a few visits, it often takes two to three weeks to obtain lasting relief.  Some choose to end care here, and that is fine with us.  Many patients choose to continue care in order to reduce the chances of re-aggravating the injury. Still others choose to get periodic treatment in order to maintain their success. In other words, now that it is fixed, lets keep it that way.  The frequency and duration of care, is based not only on your condition, but your health goals.

Do you take insurance?
Yes. We are participating providers for the following insurance companies:

Blue Cross Blue Shield
Medicare
Harvard Pilgrim
Cigna
Aetna

as well as others

What if I don't have health insurance?
No problem.  Chiropractic is more affordable than you think.  Please call our office and speak with Lanie about our fees.

How long do I have to wait to get an appointment / or at my appointment?
We can usually accommodate a new patient within 24 hours, but frequently can be seen the same day.  We respect your time. Rarely do patients wait more than 5 minutes after their appointment time. In fact, we are on time nearly 100 % of the time.

Do you refer to other doctors?
Absolutely.  We frequently refer our patients to other specialists and primary care doctors. If your condition is better treated by another type of doctor, we will refer you accordingly. We also work with the medical community to get you the appropriate testing or treatment. Often we treat patients concurrently with medical doctors to get the patient better faster.
